Meggitt’s Armoured Fighting Vehicle (AFV) Trainers provide a variety of training solutions for defense forces around the world.

Advanced simulation capabilities enable crews to train acquisition, identification, and weapons engagement procedures using both primary and alternate fire control and sighting systems. Our targets and scenarios provide for both mobile and stationary interactive threats, in single and multiple target arrays, in a realistic battlefield environment during day, night, and reduced visibility conditions

Meggitt’s AFV Trainers support both individual collective levels of Gunnery and Tactical training, enabling soldiers the opportunity to practice scenarios they normally face in combat situations. A wide array of tailored training options allows users to maximize resources and optimize combat readiness. Meggitt is fully experienced in all levels of fidelity:

  • High Fidelity – Comprising networked or stand-alone systems that replicate the vehicle’s crew compartment, turret and fire control system in both physical and functional aspects. The full motion-capable design can be in permanent, semi-permanent or re-locatable configurations.
  • Medium Fidelity – Comprising stand-alone and appended solutions in permanent, semi-permanent or re-locatable configurations. Within this category we also offer Embedded simulation solutions hosted directly on the vehicle’s CPU.
  • Low Fidelity – Ergonomically designed desktop and re-locatable task training system designed to represent key weapon system operator displays and controls for executing training procedures, basic skills, crew coordination and drills. It enables crews to train on target acquisition, identification and weapons engagement procedures.

Meggitt Training Systems provides flexible, tailored options enabling our customers to maximize their training and meet funding objectives. Each AFV Trainer permits the capture of key data and events for playback and debriefing purposes as an element of the After Action Review Process. Examples of Meggitt’s AFV Trainers include:

  • Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) Desktop Trainer – Fully compatible with the existing US Army Stryker fleet and Embedded Training system capabilities and adaptable to an array of international ATGM weapon systems. The ATGM Trainer simulates all the functions of a live weapon station while providing for crew training and improvement of gunnery skills for the Commander, Gunner and Driver stations. The ATGM Trainer enables the crew to perform their tasks, drills, and procedures, manipulating actual weapon hand controls and replicated weapon control interfaces. The system provides multiple-networked desktop trainers to conduct simultaneous training, with the potential to connect to an Instructor Operator Station (IOS), through a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High Level Architecture (HLA) compliant connection, either wirelessly or through a wired network.
  • Remote Weapon Station (RWS) Desktop Trainer – Fully compatible with the existing US Army Stryker fleet and Embedded Training system capabilities and adaptable to an array of international ATGM weapon systems. The RWS Trainer simulates all the functions of a live weapon station and provides for the practice and improvement of gunnery skills. The system can incorporate a crew commander and driver station for full crew training. The RWS Trainer enables the crew to perform their tasks, drills, and procedures, manipulating actual weapon hand controls and replicated weapon control interfaces. The system provides multiple-networked desktop trainers to conduct simultaneous training, with the potential to connect to an Instructor Operator Station (IOS), through a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High Level Architecture (HLA) compliant connection, either wirelessly or through a wired network.
  • Embedded Trainer (ET) – Meggitt’s ET software package is hosted directly on the vehicle CPU, or a processor can be added to vehicle configuration. The ET is the first of its kind collective training solution to be distributed en mass within US Army Stryker variants; Remote Weapons Station (RWS), Mobile Gun System (MGS) and Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) variant. The ET allows the weapon station operator to safely practice skills and drills in a simulated environment, while providing computer-assisted training, automated performance monitoring, feedback and recording. It can train all the members of a detachment — Driver, Gunner, Detachment Commander — in a collective training session, providing a range of simulation exercises. The solution provides multiple-networked ETs to conduct simultaneous training, with the potential to connect to an Instructor Operator Station (IOS) through a Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and High Level Architecture (HLA) compliant connection, either wirelessly or through a wired network.
